Prof. W.F. Vande Walle is emeritus professor of Japanese Studies at the KU Leuven. In 2000 he was presented with the Japan Foundation Special Prize. In 2006 he received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon. In 2016 hewas awarded the Yamagata Banto Prize of Osaka Prefecture.
